TPO roof systems are becoming one of the most popular flat roofing solutions available, and for good reason. It offers a flat roofing solution that is affordable and durable. If you’re looking for a cost-effective roofing solution, it’s worth considering TPO roofing membranes. It is an excellent roof membrane for both new roofs and re-roofing commercial projects.
What is TPO?
Since its introduction in the 1990’s, TPO roof systems have continued to grow in popularity compared similar materials. Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) is a single-ply white, reflective roofing membrane made from polypropylene and ethylene-propylene rubber polymerized together and was designed to be as durable as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber). It is typically installed in a fully adhered or mechanically attached system. When bonded, TPO creates a monolithic homogenous structure that covers your entire roof.
A durable and versatile roofing membrane
Thermoplastic roof membranes feature extraordinary tensile strength and resistance to wind damage. TPO roofs are durable, resistant to dirt, bacteria, algae and debris build-up. The flexibility of the membrane makes it highly resistant to tears, punctures and impact damage. It’s also a low-maintenance material choice.
Reflecting the sun’s harsh rays
While TPO can be manufactured in colors, the most popular choice for the TPO membrane is white. The light color membrane reflects the harsh sun-rays instead of absorbing them. When the roof is cooler — naturally, the interior of your building will remain cooler. In the long run, you may spend less money on your energy bills during those hot Central Florida days.
A customized roof system
Since TPO roofing is available in rolls, it is easier to cut and size for your roof. Your contractor would be able to provide you with a better, more custom fit that matches up to the shape of your roof. This also helps reduce the number of seams, which would help to reduce the opportunity for water to enter your building.
